Thanks to lobbying by FMANZ (notably our professional development manager, Wayne Abel), the importance of FM has been recognised by the Tertiary Education Commission and the Construction and Infrastructure Interim Establishment Board.
Board Chair Elena Trout wrote, “The Interim Establishment Board recognises the importance of the Facilities Management industry” and confirmed that FMANZ “has been recognised as one of the key stakeholders for the Workforce Development Council”. The board is currently preparing to engage with industry to inform the advice it provides to the Minister of Education and will invite FMANZ to participate in that engagement in the coming weeks and the subsequent formal consultation process that will be conducted by the Minister of Education.
The Education (Vocational Education and Training Reform) Amendment Act, which came into effect on 1 April this year, amends the Education Act 1989 and repeals the Industry Training and Apprenticeships Act 1992 .The Reform of Vocational Education (RoVE), and its seven key changes, seeks to create a strong, unified, sustainable vocational education system that is fit for the future of work and delivers the skills that learners, employers and communities need to thrive. So it’s great news that our industry has been recognised and will be consulted during this process!
