Diploma in Facilities Management
Who are these qualifications aimed at?
The Diploma in Facilities Management (DipFM) is aimed at school leavers as well as new facilities management professionals. For those already in the workforce, it will assist you to underpin your skills and practice with foundational knowledge of a rapidly growing sector.
At what level are these qualifications pitched?
Undergraduate, NZQF Level 5.
What will I learn?
You’ll learn about operational maintenance and management of built facilities. Skills you’ll learn include:
- facilities management planning
- asset management
- health and safety
- teamwork and communication
- business and financial skills
- technology and innovation
How long will it take to complete?
One year full-time. The qualification can also be undertaken part-time.
There is also an option to exit at Certificate level on completion of four papers.
Is there an option to study via distance learning?

Graduate Diploma in Facilities Management
Who are these qualifications aimed at?
The Graduate Diploma in Facilities Management (GradDipFM) is aimed at professionals working in facilities management who hold a non-FM-related tertiary qualification, for example in engineering, commerce or science. It provides an educational route for FM professionals to progress into more senior leadership roles in the industry.
The structure and content of the programme is designed to build on your existing knowledge of the operational maintenance and management of built facilities. It ranges across the many and varied core skills required by facilities managers.
At what level are these qualifications pitched?
Undergraduate, NZQF Level 7.
What will I learn?
You will gain the skills and knowledge to organise, control and coordinate the strategic and operational management of built facilities, environment and support services. The qualification covers four main knowledge areas: legal, management, technical and professional. It reflects the many and varied core competencies FM professionals need and is taught by professional experts in the fields of construction, facilities management, architecture, business, engineering, IT and other industries. Massey lecturers are active in research, ensuring you will be at the cutting edge of this fast-growing industry.

Am I eligible to study this programme?
To enter the Graduate Diploma in Facilities Management programme you will have been awarded or qualified for a bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, and have completed at least two years of relevant professional experience.
