At FMANZ we strive to support our members throughout all stages of their lives. We understand the importance of taking time off to care for a newborn or loved one, or to pursue professional goals, which is why we offer two types of leave: parental + caregiver leave and sabbatical leave.

Our individual members are eligible to take advantage of both leave types sequentially, for a combined duration of 24 months. We also recognise that needs may vary, and are willing to work with you to create a customised leave plan. During this period, your individual membership will be paused, and you will not be required to pay any fees.

We’re proud to offer these policies as part of our commitment to promoting work-life balance and supporting our members’ wellbeing. Whether you’re starting a family or pursuing a goal, we’re here to help you navigate life’s transitions.

Parental and caregiver leave

At FMANZ, we are committed to supporting our members as they navigate the joys and challenges of parenthood and caring for their families. Our parental + caregiver leave policy is designed to give new and adoptive parents the flexibility they need to care for their growing whānau. We also recognise that some members may need time off to care for elderly parents and other loved ones.

Under this policy, individual members are eligible to take a leave of absence, as needed, to care for their tamariki or loved ones. During this time, your membership will be paused, and you will not be required to pay membership fees. Once you’re ready to return, you’ll be able to restart your membership with any remaining term you had prior to the leave.

To request leave, please email membership@fmanz.org. We will work with you to ensure a smooth transition and to provide any additional support you may need during this time.

We understand that every family’s needs are unique, so if you have a need that is outside of this policy, please do get in touch. We are committed to supporting all of our members in balancing their personal and professional responsibilities.

Sabbatical

At FMANZ, we understand that professional development is crucial to our members’ growth. That’s why we offer a sabbatical policy that enables individual members to pause their membership for up to 12 months.

During the sabbatical period, your individual membership will be paused, and you can focus on your intended activities, provided you submit a plan in advance. Once you’re ready to return, your membership will be resumed with any remaining term you had prior to your leave.

To request sabbatical leave, please email membership@fmanz.org. We’ll be happy to support you throughout the process and ensure a smooth transition.
