Juliane Spaak, Principal / Technical Director - Structural Engineering, Beca
Juliane has 24 years’ experience as a structural engineer in the construction industry, working on education, commercial, and retail projects in New Zealand and offshore. She is a Technical Director and Beca’s Existing Buildings Lead.
Juliane was actively involved in the recovery efforts following the Canterbury and Kaikōura earthquakes, undertaking damage evaluations, repair, and retrofit work in Christchurch and Wellington. She was also the project lead for MBIE’s Cost-Benefit Analysis of New Zealand’s earthquake-prone buildings.
Rob Jury, Chief Engineer - Structural Engineering, Beca
Rob has over 45 years of experience in the assessment and design of buildings in New Zealand and internationally, and currently holds the role of Beca’s Chief Structural Engineer. He acted as a key specialist for the Canterbury Earthquake Royal Commission of Inquiry and was the chief editor of the Guidelines for the Seismic Assessment of Existing Buildings, which underpin seismic assessment practice in New Zealand.
Rob is a member of the Seismic Risk Working Group, contributing to essential work on the future direction of seismic design in New Zealand. He is currently Chair of the TS1170.5 Standards Committee and a member of the Joint Committee focused on existing building seismic matters. In recognition of his contribution to structural design and engineering, Rob was awarded an ONZM in the 2024 King’s Birthday Honours.
