This survey captured the experiences of more than 3,300 construction workers – from tradies and apprentices to site managers, and leaders. The results revealed that while physical safety has steadily improved, mental health pressures remain significant across the industry.

Cat is a Health, Safety and Wellbeing leader with a passion for creating workplaces where people feel safe, supported, and able to thrive. With a strong background across the New Zealand rail and infrastructure sectors, her key focus is lifting leader capability and embedding safety, health and wellbeing as a shared responsibility.
She recently completed an MSc in Occupational Health and Safety and Environment and brings a blend of evidence-based practice, operational insight, and genuine care for people to her work. Cat currently leads Programmed FM’s national wellbeing approach, including new wellbeing committees, leadership engagement frameworks, and systems that enable better conversations and outcomes for workers.

Chris Alderson, CEO Construction Health and Safety New Zealand (CHASNZ)
As CEO of Construction Health and Safety New Zealand (CHASNZ) for over six years, Chris has spearheaded initiatives to elevate health and safety standards across New Zealand and globally. With credentials as a Chartered Accountant, Chartered Member of NZIOD, Master of Commerce, NZISM Professional member, and HASANZ Registered professional, he collaborates with industry leaders to deliver impactful programs that address worker wellbeing, safety training, and systemic transformation.
Chris's leadership extends to serving as a board member for WorkSafe New Zealand and Mates in Construction NZ, reinforcing a commitment to enhancing mental health in the workforce. His expertise lies in health and safety leadership, business transformation, and financial management, cultivated through diverse roles across industries. This consultative approach drives innovation while aligning stakeholders towards the shared mission of a safer construction industry.
