What can current research tell us about the future of facilities management – and how can our industry help shape the research that matters?
Join us for an interactive evening at Massey University, exploring current facilities management research and the opportunities to better connect research with FM industry practice.
The Research Project Showcase will provide a snapshot of a range of current projects underway at Massey University and beyond. Rather than sitting through a series of presentations, you’ll have the opportunity to move between projects, hear directly from researchers and ask questions in a relaxed, small-group format – a little like research speed dating.
Projects will explore topics including:
Throughout the evening there will be refreshments and networking, providing an opportunity to connect with fellow FMANZ members, researchers and industry colleagues.
Come along, see what’s being researched, challenge the thinking, and help shape the research that could make a difference to facilities management in practice.

Join us for an interactive evening at Massey University, exploring current facilities management research and the opportunities to better connect research with FM industry practice.
The Research Project Showcase will provide a snapshot of a range of current projects underway at Massey University and beyond. Rather than sitting through a series of presentations, you’ll have the opportunity to move between projects, hear directly from researchers and ask questions in a relaxed, small-group format – a little like research speed dating.
Projects will explore topics including:
- Post-occupancy evaluation – developing smarter ways to understand what building occupants value and how this can inform better FM decisions.
- Smart maintenance management – using drones, AI and BIM to automate building-envelope inspections and improve maintenance planning.
- Digital asset information – using COBie and structured data to improve maintenance decision-making for air-handling units.
- Classroom ventilation and airflow – investigating how window design, ventilation and mechanical systems affect indoor air quality.
- Aged-care accessibility – examining how door thresholds affect mobility and accessibility for elderly residents.
- Modular and circular buildings – monitoring the performance and long-term adaptability of a recycled-aluminium modular building.
- Building facade performance – investigating the thermal performance of facade systems commonly used in New Zealand.
Throughout the evening there will be refreshments and networking, providing an opportunity to connect with fellow FMANZ members, researchers and industry colleagues.
