Join us for this engaging breakfast session, supported by EECA, as we explore how connected technologies, data and AI are changing the way buildings are managed and operated.
Buildings are rapidly evolving from collections of separate assets and systems into connected, data-rich operating environments. We’ll look at how IoT sensors, building management systems, digital building information, cloud platforms, advanced analytics and AI are coming together across the building lifecycle.
You’ll explore current and emerging developments in:
Importantly, this session takes a practical, value-first approach. You’ll gain ideas for identifying opportunities to reduce energy waste, downtime and manual effort, improve asset reliability and occupant outcomes, and make better use of data already available within existing systems.
We’ll also explore how to prioritise AI opportunities based on value, effort, risk and organisational readiness, and build a staged pathway towards smarter building operations.
This session is supported by EECA as part of its work to promote energy efficiency, renewable energy and carbon emission reductions, helping New Zealand transition to clean and clever energy use.
Light breakfast catering will be provided, with time to catch up and connect with fellow FM professionals.

Nick Sterling, Co-Founder & CEO of the Innovation Activator
Nick is the Founder and CEO of the Innovation Activator, an offshoot of Callaghan Innovation, where he was Head of Construction Innovation for about 10 years. Nick leads a multidisciplinary team of domain experts that accelerates the growth of Kiwi businesses through technology and innovation.
Nick leads the ‘Innovate’ Workstream of the ‘AI in AEC’ Working Group of the ‘AI Blueprint for Aotearoa’, is on the Advisory Board of numerous businesses and Massey University’s School of Built Environment. He has also been an active pro bono Business Mentor for 17 years, supporting purpose-led organisations increase their impact regionally, nationally and internationally.
