ENJOY INDUSTRY RECOGNITION - BE ASSESSED INTO A PROFESSIONAL MEMBER CATEGORY

Serious about a career in FM? FMANZ has embarked on an exciting journey towards professionalisation of the industry and we want you to join us.

All you need to do is decide which professional member category you qualify for and complete a short application form. If you have a current CV handy, this should take around 10 minutes. (Note: An application for Certified membership will take a little longer as it requires a written submission to demonstrate your experience of the FMANZ Professional Competency Framework.)

The new categories have been tiered according to individual experience, skills and qualifications, from entry to senior level FM. These are: AFFILIATE, ASSOCIATE, MEMBER, and CERTIFIED MEMBER. There are also categories for STUDENT and RETIRED members, with the title of FELLOW awarded to members who have made a significant contribution to FMANZ.

AFFILIATE membership is suitable for anyone who has an interest in Facilities Management, has just entered the industry, or is supplying goods and services to FM professionals. Previous experience in FM is not required, and no assessment is needed. 
If members choose not to apply for a membership category by the October 2019 AGM, they will automatically be assigned AFFILIATE membership.

READY TO APPLY? HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO DO:

Step 1: Click here to identify which member category you’re eligible for. You’ll need to know this before proceeding with your application.

Step 2: Request an application form. Your request will only take a few minutes to process. You will need your FMANZ membership number, or the email address we currently send invitations, e-newsletters etc. to.

Step 3: Complete the personalised form that we will send to your inbox. If you’re applying for Affiliate membership, no assessment is needed. Assessment is required for Associate, Member, Certified and Retired (if you want to use your post-nominal in retirement) members. If you’re applying for Student membership, we will require proof of full-time enrolment e.g. current student ID.

Step 4: You will receive email confirmation that we have received your application.

Step 5: We’ll get back in touch to confirm your membership category or to request more information if needed.


NOTES:

 

1. Only Individual members can apply for professional membership. If you’re a Corporate staff member, you’re welcome to become an Individual member (and pay the Individual annual membership fee) in order to be assessed.


2. While assessment isn't compulsory, we strongly encourage all Individual members who are working as FM professionals to complete an application. If you opt not to be assessed, your membership will default to ‘Affiliate’.

3. Applications will be processed by the Management Team and recommended by the CEO for approval by the Board. If necessary, applications will be adjudicated by the Board's appointed assessors. We anticipate it will take until the 2019 AGM in October for all members who want to, to be assessed into the new categories.
 

4. Certified Membership is the highest level of professional membership offered by FMANZ and is the pinnacle of FM professionalism in New Zealand. Given the kudos of Certified membership, the application process is more involved than for other categories. Click here for more information.


FEES

The annual fee for Individual Membership, regardless of category, is $200 plus GST. NOTE: For Certified membership there is a one-off application fee of $175 incl. GST. Student membership costs $25 plus GST p.a.

FAQ's
 

Is assessment into a new membership category compulsory? 

No, assessment isn't compulsory, but we strongly encourage all Individual members who are working as FM professionals to complete an application in order to gain professional recognition for their skills, qualifications and experience. If you opt not to be assessed, your membership will default to ‘Affiliate’. 

How do I know which member category I am eligible for?
Take a look at the eligibility requirements here. If you're still unsure, email assessment@fmanz.org for clarification. Remember: Certified Membership is the highest level of professional membership offered by FMANZ; the pinnacle of FM professionalism in New Zealand, so if you think you qualify, it's worth taking the extra time to apply for this category.

What is the deadline for completing my application?
The sooner the better, but definitely before the 2019 AGM, in October. We estimate it will take until then for all members who want to, to be assessed into a new membership category. If you haven't applied by then, you will automatically be assigned Affiliate membership.

What happens if I don't complete an application form?
If you opt not to be assessed, you will automatically be assigned Affiliate membership.

Will becoming a professional member cost me more?
No, the annual fee for all Individual members, regardless of membership category, is $200 plus GST, with the exception of Student membership, which costs $25 plus GST. There is a one-off application fee of $175 incl. GST for Certified membership. Current membership fees will not change during the 2019/2020 financial year. Tiered membership fees for each category may be introduced from 1 April 2020. 

Why has FMANZ introduced these new member categories?
As FM comes of age as a profession and a career, FMANZ is working to attain recognition for FM professional status and to support members’ professional development pathways and career advancement. Professionalism of Facilities Management has been a consistent strategic objective of the Association. The new membership categories provide the stepping stones by which facilities managers can progress towards attainment of FMANZ’s professional competencies and become a Certified Member.

Why should I apply for professional membership? What’s in it for me?
Professionalism will demonstrate to your peers, employers and industry colleagues that you are serious about your professional development and FM career. It is also a way to have your FM experience and skills recognised. Click here to see a full list of benefits for each membership category. 

I am a supplier of goods and services to the FM industry, but don't work as a Facilities Manager. What category would I fall into?
You would qualify for Affiliate membership. Affiliate membership is suitable for anyone who has an interest in FM, has just entered the industry, or is supplying goods and services to FM professionals. Previous experience in Facilities Management is not required, and no assessment is needed, although we do encourage you to fill out the application form regardless. It will only take a few minutes. 

I am a Corporate staff member - can I apply for professional membership/ to be assessed into a new member category?
No, only Individual members can apply for professional membership. If you’re a Corporate staff member, you’re welcome to become an Individual member (and pay the Individual annual membership fee) in order to be assessed.

What is the FMANZ CPD points system?
To support members' pathways to professionalism, FMANZ is delivering an annual Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programme that is aligned to the FMANZ Professional Competencies Framework. From 1 April 2020, Associate, Member and Certified members are required to obtain 20 CPD points each year (1 point = 1 hour of CPD) gained through attending FMANZ and other industry/employer educational offerings. (See here for an explanatory graphic.) Note: official points allocation is still to be confirmed.

I think I might be eligible for Certified Membership, but I'm not 100% sure?
Before you spend time applying for Certified Membership, take a look at the eligibility requirements for the various membership categories here. Also have a read through of the Submission Guide contained in the Application Pack. This contains a lot of helpful information and hopefully will help you decide whether you have the level of experience required. If you need more clarification, please email assessment@fmanz.org. 

What are post-nominals?
Professional members are entitled to use a post-nominal (letters after their name) in their email signatures, on their business cards, in their CV etc. This post-nominal is your badge of professionalism and we encourage you to use it wherever possible. It demonstrates a commitment to your career and the FM profession, and is a recognition of your skills, experience and qualifications. Associate members can use AFMANZ, Members - MFMANZ, and Certified Members - CFMANZ.

What happens if I am already a 'Professional Member' of FMANZ?
You don't need to do anything. What was formerly known as Professional Membership has been changed to Certified Membership so you have automatically been assessed. Certified membership is the highest level of professional membership offered by FMANZ and is the pinnacle of FM professionalism in New Zealand. You can use the post-nominal CFMANZ.
