FMANZ National Breakfast Seminar - November 2017

Virtual & Augmented Reality
a New Reality for Facilities Management

Augmented Reality (AR) is an advanced innovation that acts like X-ray glasses.
In the FM industry, the technology can be used to provide an image of hidden walls,
ceilings, and floors as well as the locations of pipes and ducts. The combination
of this image with computerised data enables excellent management of structures.
AR is exponentially developing and can assist facilities managers in maintaining a
building’s life cycle.

Virtual Reality (VR), on the other hand, is another prominent technology that works
by allowing individuals to step into a computer-generated artificial 3D world. Under
this pseudo-reality, FMers can grasp virtual facilities and situations in their buildings
before they even exist, enabling easier and better decision making.

Wade Jennings from CPRW FISHER will talk about what AR and VR is and how
AR and VR can benefit Facilities Managers, not only when they occupy new-builds,
but also when they work with existing older facilities.
With these technologies developing at a rapid speed, it will become easier for
operational teams to access a building's information. This presentation will give you
insight into what the possibilities are and where and when it makes sense to apply
these technologies and information.

Wade Jennings

Director - CPRW FISHER

Having spent 10 years working in Europe working on large scale commercial projects for
the likes of Cisco Systems in Amsterdam, Barclays World HQ, Canary Wharf, and an
extension to the Kuwait National Assembly, it was time to return to New Zealand in 2006.
One of his first projects back here saw him take on the role of design lead and
project architect for the refurbishment of 21 Queen Street (now Zurich House).

At CPRW FISHER Wade increasingly works with technology such as Building Information
Modelling (BIM) software, Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR).
These technologies are having a positive and beneficial effect on the way building projects
are documented and delivered, from inception to completion and beyond.

FMANZ Professional Competencies Framework
In keeping with the objectives of FMANZ to promote professional FM practice, the
Association has a framework that enables the professional competencies and qualifications
of its members to be recognised.

As part of the FMANZ Education Strategy,  events will align with key elements of the
FMANZ Professional Competency Framework.
